As the backbone of one of the nation’s most highly acclaimed transit system, Metro growth means a greater attraction for business development, economic growth, and metropolitan appeal. The greatest cities in the country and in the world offer great transit. St. Louis has the opportunity to continue to be one of the leading cities in the country in public transit growth. Impacts on our region include:
Increasing economic development – benefits to the cities and the suburbs in both Missouri and Illinois including $15 billion within walking distance of MetroLink stations since 1993 and structures including Park East Tower, Parsons Place, Express Scripts, BJC, Meridian, and Downtown Lofts.
At the Downtown Partnership annual meeting, Chris Leinberger of the Brookings Institute said that the cities getting ahead are those who are investing in rail transit. He said, "St. Louis needs to be expanding MetroLink and promoting more transit‐oriented development or your kids will be moving to Chicago." What are some of our peer regions doing with new light‐rail systems for advancing their public transit needs?
In November we have the opportunity to keep St. Louis on the right track by voting Yes on Proposition M. Now is our time to invest in our region’s future: our children’s future in the region. With the successful passage of Proposition M, we will move forward –together.
